.uk domain registration from Pakistan

.uk is the United Kingdom's country code domain, run by Nominet UK from Oxford. Names directly under .uk, such as yourbrand.uk, have been sold since June 2014 alongside the older .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk endings. Nominet's rules say any person may register at this level, so a person or company in Pakistan can hold a .uk in their own name without a UK address.

Price and how to order

Who uses .uk

  • Pakistani exporters selling to UK buyers
  • Freelancers and software houses with UK clients
  • British-Pakistani family businesses
  • Brands that want something shorter than .co.uk
  • Owners of a .co.uk protecting the matching .uk

A Sialkot sports-goods maker or a Lahore software house whose customers sit in Manchester or Birmingham can use a British web address without a British office, because Nominet does not ask for a UK address. We register the .uk in your own name through a registrar, check availability before filing, take payment in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and aim to file the same working day the payment arrives. Many customers pair it with a .pk or .com.pk for the home market.

Eligibility and rules

Who may register: Open to anyone, anywhere

  • Name format: only the letters a to z, the digits 0 to 9 and hyphens are allowed. The whole name, including the .uk ending, may not be longer than 64 characters; Nominet says it intends to allow longer names in future but has not announced that change. Nominet does not offer internationalised names, so Urdu or accented characters (names starting xn--) are refused.
  • Who may register: Nominet's Rules of Registration say any person may register a name directly under .uk, and there is no residency test. Nominet's policy for its new platform describes .uk as intended for those who wish to be associated with the United Kingdom, but marks that as advisory only. Since Nominet's 2018 GDPR changes a UK address for service is no longer needed and PO box addresses are accepted, and Nominet's registry has registrant types for non-UK individuals and non-UK companies. Other endings have their own limits: .ltd.uk and .plc.uk are only for companies on the UK companies register, .me.uk only for individuals, and .net.uk and .sch.uk have their own criteria.
  • Data checks and documents: no paperwork is needed to file a .uk, but Nominet checks the registrant's name and postal address against third-party data (it names Royal Mail, the electoral roll and Companies House) when a name is registered or the details change. Where it cannot match them it may ask for identification or a company certificate, and a name whose details cannot be validated can be suspended. Its ID checks run through a service called Mitek and ask for photo ID and proof of address, such as a passport, bank statement or bill. Giving false details, or failing to keep them up to date, is grounds for Nominet to cancel the name. From 9 February 2027 the new registrant terms require contact changes within 7 days and a reply to accuracy checks within 30 days.
  • Term and renewal: a .uk can be registered or renewed for 1 to 10 years at a time, but only through a registrar that is a Nominet member; Nominet's default term is two years and registrars that are not members can only renew in two-year blocks. A renewal always runs from the original expiry date and time, whether you renew early or late, so renewing late does not lose you any days.
  • Expiry lifecycle (Nominet's own): for 30 days after expiry the name still works and can be renewed through the registrar. From day 30 to day 90 it can still be renewed, but Nominet stops it resolving, so the website and email stop, and it appears on Nominet's daily drop list. From day 90 to day 95 it is queued for deletion and can no longer be renewed. At day 95 it is deleted and anyone may register it. Your registrar may suspend services earlier than this.
  • Changing registrar and privacy: a .uk moves between registrars by registrar TAG. Nominet's March 2023 paper says the current move does not change the expiry date and costs the registrar nothing; a registrant doing it personally through Nominet Online Services pays GBP 10 plus VAT per transaction. From 9 February 2027 Nominet withdraws Online Services for registrants and every change, including a registrar move, must go through a registrar. On privacy, Nominet's lookup does not show a registrant's name or postal address unless the registrant chooses to display them, a change Nominet made for GDPR in 2018; Nominet still gives law enforcement access to the names and addresses it holds.

Questions about .uk

Can a person or company in Pakistan register a .uk domain?

Yes. Nominet's rules say any person may register a name directly under .uk, and since 2018 no UK address for service is required. We file it with you as the registrant, so the record shows your name, not ours.

What is the difference between .uk and .co.uk?

.co.uk is the older, more common ending; .uk is shorter and newer. Both are run by Nominet under the same rules, the same 1 to 10 year terms and the same expiry process. The five-year period in which .co.uk holders could reserve the matching .uk ended in June 2019 and unclaimed names were released from 1 July 2019, so holding the .co.uk no longer reserves the .uk for you.

How much does a .uk domain cost in Pakistan?

Our rupee prices are on the price list at /pricing/. If .uk is not listed there yet, message us on WhatsApp and we will quote it in PKR. You can pay by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa.

Do I need a CNIC, SECP certificate or other documents?

Nominet asks for no documents at filing, only a correct legal name, postal address and contact details such as email and phone. It then checks the name and address against third-party data, and if it cannot match them it may ask for identification or a company certificate; a name whose details cannot be validated can be suspended. If the registrant is to be your company, give us the exact name as registered with SECP so the record matches your paperwork, and keep a passport or the SECP certificate handy in case Nominet asks.

What happens if I forget to renew my .uk?

For 90 days after expiry you can still renew through your registrar. For the first 30 days the name keeps working; after that Nominet stops it resolving, so your site and email go down until you renew, and your registrar may cut services even sooner. From day 90 to day 95 the name is queued for deletion and cannot be renewed. On day 95 Nominet deletes it and anyone can register it.

Can I move my .uk to another registrar later?

Yes. The domain is in your name, and Nominet says a registrar change by TAG does not alter the expiry date. From 9 February 2027 Nominet moves .uk to a new platform and every change, including a registrar move, must go through a registrar rather than directly with Nominet.
