.qa domain registration from Pakistan

.qa is the country code for Qatar, run by the Communications Regulatory Authority from Doha. The plain .qa name, straight after the dot, is open to applicants from any country, so a Pakistani freelancer, trader or company can hold one in their own name. The Qatar-only rules apply to the third-level names such as .com.qa and .name.qa, not to .qa itself.

Who uses .qa

  • Pakistani firms selling goods or services into Qatar
  • Overseas Pakistanis living and working in Doha
  • Recruitment and manpower agencies placing staff in Qatar
  • Exporters and traders with Gulf buyers
  • Consultants and freelancers with Qatari clients

Many Pakistanis work in Qatar, and plenty of Pakistani firms supply it with goods, staff and services. A .qa name tells a Qatari buyer or employer that you are set up for their market, and you can hold it from Lahore or Karachi without a Qatar trade licence. For example, a Lahore manpower agency recruiting for Doha projects could put its Qatar-facing site on a .qa name registered in the agency's own name, paid in rupees by Raast or bank transfer, while its home site stays on .com.pk.

Eligibility and rules

Who may register: Open to anyone, anywhere. The CRA's registration policy (section 17.1) says applicants for a second-level .qa name do not have to provide documentary evidence or meet any eligibility test beyond the general registry policies, and may apply through any accredited registrar. The third-level names (.com.qa, .net.qa, .name.qa, .org.qa, .sch.qa, .edu.qa, .gov.qa and .mil.qa) are reserved for Qatar-registered companies, Qatar citizens or residents, and Qatari institutions; .info.qa and .biz.qa are closed to new applications.

  • Name length and characters: 2 to 63 characters per label, using letters a-z, digits 0-9 and hyphens. The name must begin and end with a letter or digit, must not contain spaces, and may not have hyphens in the third and fourth positions.
  • Term: one to five years at registration, and one to five years at each renewal. A renewal can be made at any time before expiry, as long as the total licence period stays within five years plus ninety calendar days.
  • Documents: none for a plain .qa. The CRA policy states that applicants for second-level .qa names are not required to provide documentary evidence. We still need correct registrant and technical contact details, because the registrant agreement treats false or outdated details as grounds for cancellation, and a registrant who does not answer an accuracy query from the registrar within 15 calendar days can lose the name.
  • Grace and expiry: a three-calendar-day grace period after registration or renewal allows a typo to be corrected with the fee refunded to the registrar. After expiry the name enters Expired Hold, drops out of DNS, and can still be renewed or transferred for exactly 30 calendar days. It then moves to Expired Pending Purge, which cannot be recovered, and becomes eligible for purging one day later; the registry purges daily at 08:00 UTC.
  • Transfer and WHOIS: a registrar transfer needs the domain password (auth code) and a written request from the registrant (email or online form is fine, a phone call is not). It proceeds automatically two calendar days after the gaining registrar starts it, the losing registrar may not charge a transfer fee, and the remaining term carries over with no extra year added. The CRA transfer policy says a registrant may transfer at any time and sets no lock period after registration. The CRA WHOIS terms list only the domain name, Arabic variant, registrar name, status and name servers as displayed fields, and mention no privacy or proxy service.
  • Arabic names: .qa itself takes Latin letters, digits and hyphens only. Arabic-script names are registered under the separate Arabic country code قطر (xn--wgbl6a), also run by the CRA, but that extension carries the same Qatar-only eligibility rules as the third-level names, so it is not open to an applicant without Qatar ties.

Questions about .qa

Can a Pakistani register a .qa domain without a Qatar address?

Yes. The CRA's registration policy says second-level .qa names may be registered by any applicant through any accredited registrar, with no documentary evidence. Only the third-level names such as .com.qa and .name.qa need a Qatar trade licence, trade mark, Qatar ID or residency permit.

How long can I register a .qa domain for?

One to five years. You can renew for one to five years at any time before expiry, as long as the total period does not go beyond five years and ninety days.

What is the difference between .qa and .com.qa?

.qa is the plain second-level name and is open to everyone. .com.qa is for commercial entities registered in Qatar, who must show a Qatar trade licence or a Qatari trade mark. It is sold only through registrars based in Qatar, and the registry requires a .com.qa site to be hosted inside Qatar.

What happens if I forget to renew my .qa domain?

The name stops resolving and enters Expired Hold. You have 30 calendar days to renew or transfer it. After that it enters a non-recoverable purge state and is deleted, so set a reminder well before the expiry date.

Does .qa support Urdu or Arabic names?

.qa itself takes only a-z, 0-9 and hyphens. Arabic-script names go under the separate Arabic country code قطر, which the CRA also runs, but that extension is limited to Qatar-registered businesses, Qatar citizens or residents and Qatari institutions, so it is not a route for a Pakistani applicant without Qatar ties. We did not check whether Urdu-specific letters appear in the registry's allowed character table.

How much does a .qa domain cost in Pakistan?

Our current rupee prices are on the price list at /pricing/. If .qa is not listed there, message us on WhatsApp and we will quote. We do not state a registry price here because we could not verify one on the CRA's own site.
