How much does a .pk domain cost in Pakistan?
PKNIC, the registry that runs .pk, charges Rs 2,100 per domain per year for a registrant based in Pakistan, and it collects the fee two years at a time, so a new .pk or .com.pk name costs Rs 4,200 at the registry for its first two years. A registrant outside Pakistan pays USD 15.99 per year. Most small businesses buy through a reseller or hosting company, which adds its own margin, so the price you are quoted is usually higher than the registry fee.
What PKNIC itself charges
PKNIC is the organisation listed by IANA as the manager of the .pk top-level domain. Its published fee is Rs 2,100 per domain per year for registrants based in Pakistan. That rate took effect on 1 August 2026, when PKNIC raised the fee by Rs 300 from Rs 1,800. A registrant or registrar located outside Pakistan pays USD 15.99 per domain per year, and that figure did not change.
PKNIC collects the fee every two years in advance, and you can pay for up to ten years in one go. PKNIC publishes a single fee for .pk domains; it does not list a separate price for .com.pk, .org.pk or the other public second-level names. For history: an earlier PKNIC notice says the fee was set at Rs 1,000 a year in 1998 and later rose to Rs 1,175.
Why two years is the minimum
PKNIC's policy says the maintenance fee is collected in advance every two years. In practice that makes two years the smallest term you can buy: two years at Rs 2,100 is Rs 4,200 at registry level, before any reseller margin. Renewals come in the same two-year blocks, and once the fee is paid PKNIC does not refund it or move it to another domain.
This is different from .com, .net and .org, which registrars sell one year at a time. When you plan a budget for a Lahore shop or a Karachi freelance business, write down the two-year figure for the .pk name, not a per-year number, so the first invoice does not surprise you.
Why resellers and hosting companies charge more
PKNIC says its resellers are independent businesses it does not own. A reseller must have funds in its PKNIC account before a name can be filed; PKNIC only registers when the balance is there or a card payment clears. PKNIC itself takes card, pre-paid card, or a cheque or bank draft posted to Lahore, and no cash, so part of what a reseller sells is the convenience of paying by JazzCash or Easypaisa.
The reseller also pays bank charges, staff time to check availability and chase paperwork, and any tax it must charge as an FBR-registered business. So a retail price above Rs 2,100 a year is normal. What matters is the size of the gap and whether the renewal price is shown next to it. We are a reseller-style service too: not a registrar, and not affiliated with PKNIC.
What the renewal price means
At the registry, the yearly renewal fee is the same as the yearly registration fee. That is not always true at the retail level. Many sellers discount the first term and charge more when the domain comes up for renewal, so always read the renewal column before you compare two offers.
If the fee is not paid by the due date, PKNIC can de-activate the domain. It then keeps the name on hold for two weeks, during which the owner can pay and bring it back; after that it can be offered to others. PKNIC treats payment reminders as a favour, not an obligation, so put the expiry date in your own calendar. An expired domain also cannot be transferred to another account or have its registrant record unlocked until it is paid up.
How SastiDomains prices .pk domains
Our price list at /pricing/ shows rupee prices per term, with the renewal price beside every registration price. For .pk and .com.pk the price covers two years, because that is PKNIC's billing block. Where a price is not set yet, the page says ask on WhatsApp, and we quote it when you order.
We confirm availability on WhatsApp first, then send payment details with your order number. You pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa. Once the money arrives we file the registration in your own name through PKNIC or a registrar, aiming for the same working day. Orders not paid within 48 hours are cancelled. If someone else takes the name before we can file it, you get a full refund. Search at /domains/, order at /order/.
Getting the registrant name right the first time
PKNIC fixes the registrant name at registration, and the record then stays locked. Any change needs original documents posted to PKNIC in Lahore; scans are not accepted. For a company that means an authority letter on letterhead signed by the CEO or a director, plus a copy of that person's CNIC. For an individual it means an affidavit on Rs 100 stamp paper attested by an oath commissioner or notary. PKNIC verifies the papers by phone, then the change takes about three to four business days.
So decide before you order whether the domain is yours or your SECP-registered company's, and spell the name exactly as on the CNIC or the incorporation certificate. The domain name itself cannot be changed after registration either, so check that too. If you later sell the name, /pk-domain-transfer/ explains the same paperwork.
Common questions
Can I register a .pk domain for one year?
No. PKNIC collects its fee two years at a time, so the shortest term is two years. You can pay for up to ten years at once.
Does a .com.pk cost the same as a .pk?
PKNIC publishes one fee of Rs 2,100 a year for .pk domains and does not list a separate .com.pk price. The real difference is in the naming rules: a name directly under .pk must be at least four characters, while a .com.pk name can be as short as one.
Why did my renewal quote go up this year?
PKNIC raised its fee by Rs 300 per domain per year on 1 August 2026, from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,100. Resellers pass that on, and some also charged a lower first-term price, so the renewal was always going to be higher.
Can I change the owner name on a .pk domain later?
Only through PKNIC's paper process: original signed documents posted to Lahore, phone verification, then about three to four business days. It cannot be done while the domain is expired, so it is far easier to get the name right when you order.
Do I need a company or a Pakistani address to register a .pk domain?
PKNIC's policy says no local presence is required, and .com.pk is open to businesses and individuals. The difference is the fee: Pakistan-based registrants pay in rupees, while a registrant or registrar outside Pakistan pays USD 15.99 a year.
What happens if I forget to renew?
PKNIC can de-activate the domain after the due date, then holds the name for two weeks in which you can pay and reactivate it. After that it can be offered to others, so note the expiry date yourself rather than relying on reminder emails.
