.in domain registration from Pakistan

.in is India's country code domain. The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) runs it but does not sell names itself; every .in is filed through a NIXI-accredited registrar. NIXI's own policy lets anyone in the world register one, so a Pakistani company that sells to, or writes for, people across the border can hold a short address its audience already knows.

Price and how to order

Loading the current .in price…

Search any name on the availability checker, or go straight to the order form. We confirm availability before registering, you pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and the domain is registered in your own name.

Who uses .in

  • Pakistani exporters with buyers in India
  • Software houses and freelancers billing Indian clients
  • Businesses serving the South Asian diaspora
  • News, culture and language sites with cross-border readers
  • Brands wanting a short name that ends in 'in'

A Pakistani business picks .in when its customers sit in India or in the Indian diaspora, or when the name reads naturally as a word ending in 'in'. A Lahore software house invoicing clients in Bengaluru, or a Karachi spice exporter with buyers in Mumbai, can hold a .in next to its .pk or .com. We register it in your own name through a NIXI-accredited registrar, you pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and we aim to file the same working day the payment arrives. Expect to state your connection with India and to complete KYC, which NIXI says is mandatory.

Eligibility and rules

Who may register: Open to any person or organisation anywhere. NIXI's policy page puts .in and its open third-level zones (co.in, net.in, org.in and others) in the unrestricted group, with no residency or local-presence test. In an advisory dated 29 July 2025 NIXI asked registrants living outside India to state their business connection or purpose of connection to India; the advisory calls this a procedural step that does not stop a foreign applicant. The zones ac.in, edu.in, gov.in, mil.in and res.in are reserved for qualifying Indian institutions.

  • A name is 3 to 63 characters long and may use only letters, digits and hyphens. It cannot start or end with a hyphen, and it cannot carry hyphens as both its third and fourth characters. One- and two-character names are reserved.
  • You can register for 1 to 10 years (NIXI policy effective 16 October 2008). At expiry the name auto-renews through the registrar. NIXI's Registrant Terms (clause 9) say the registry has no duty to tell you in advance that the term is ending; keeping the name alive is your job.
  • If a renewal is missed, NIXI's FAQ sets out a 45-day Auto-Renew Grace Period, then a 30-day Redemption Grace Period in which the sponsoring registrar can ask the registry to restore the name (NIXI's tariff lists a ₹1,000 restore fee), then a 5-day Redemption Hold Period during which the name is locked. A deleted name can be registered afresh 35 days after deletion if no restore was requested.
  • No registrar-to-registrar transfer for 60 days after a name is created. A transfer adds one year to the term, is paid for by the gaining registrar, needs the 6- to 16-character authorisation code from your current registrar, and finishes in about five days once started.
  • No WHOIS privacy. NIXI's Registrant Terms (clause 3) say proxy or privacy services of any kind are not allowed, and that a registrant whose data is hidden by such a service will not be treated as the owner. Your full name, postal address, own email and phone number must be in WHOIS and kept current. NIXI says KYC is mandatory under CERT-In guidelines issued under Section 70B of the IT Act 2000.
  • NIXI's wholesale tariff to registrars is ₹500 per domain year for .in and ₹400 per domain year for third-level names such as co.in, net.in and org.in; registrars set their own retail prices, so ours is on /pricing/ or quoted on WhatsApp. .in itself does not accept names in non-Latin script; NIXI runs separate Indian-script country domains instead, such as .भारत (Devanagari) and .بھارت (Urdu, listed by IANA as its own ccTLD).

Questions about .in

Can someone in Pakistan register a .in domain?

Yes. NIXI's policy page opens .in to anyone in the world and sets no residency test. In an advisory dated 29 July 2025 NIXI asked registrants outside India to state their business connection or purpose of connection to India, and NIXI says KYC is mandatory, so expect to show government ID and give a one-line reason.

.in or .co.in: which should I choose?

Both are open to anyone. .in is the shorter second-level name; co.in sits one level down, and NIXI's wholesale fee to registrars is lower for it (₹400 a year against ₹500 for .in). Retail prices differ by registrar, so check our price list at /pricing/ or ask us on WhatsApp.

How many years can I register a .in for?

Between 1 and 10 years in one go. At expiry the name auto-renews through the registrar. NIXI's terms say the registry has no duty to warn you in advance; registrars usually email a reminder, so keep your contact email current.

What happens if I miss the renewal date?

NIXI's FAQ gives a 45-day auto-renew grace period, then a 30-day redemption period in which your registrar can have the name restored for an extra fee, then a 5-day hold. If nobody restores it, the name becomes available again 35 days after deletion.

Does .in come with WHOIS privacy?

No. NIXI's Registrant Terms say proxy and privacy services are not allowed and that your real name, address, email and phone must sit in WHOIS. If the data is masked by a proxy, NIXI may not treat you as the owner.

Can I buy .in names to resell or auction?

NIXI's advisory of 11 May 2026 says auctioning, bidding on, or speculative sale of a .in name is not permitted and that NIXI can put a domain on Server Hold without notice. The advisory does not define 'speculative sale', so register a .in for a site or business you mean to run.
