.pk domain registration from Pakistan

.pk is Pakistan's own country code. It dates from 1992 and is run by PKNIC from Lahore. A .pk address tells a visitor at once that a business or person belongs to Pakistan, whether the name sits directly under .pk or under a sub-zone such as .com.pk or .org.pk. Anyone may register one, but registrants based in Pakistan pay in rupees and every registration is charged for two years at a time.

Price and how to order

Loading the current .pk price…

Search any name on the availability checker, or go straight to the order form. We confirm availability before registering, you pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and the domain is registered in your own name.

Who uses .pk

  • Pakistani businesses, shops and brands
  • Freelancers and professionals in Pakistan
  • NGOs, societies and trusts (.org.pk)
  • Overseas Pakistanis and foreign firms serving Pakistan
  • Schools, colleges and universities (.edu.pk, .ac.pk)

A Karachi clothing brand or a Lahore software house picks .pk because it says "Pakistani" before a visitor reads a word of the site. We check availability with PKNIC, file the name in your own name or your SECP-registered company's name, and take payment in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, aiming to file the same working day the money arrives. Getting the registrant right on day one matters: PKNIC locks the record, and a later change means original signed papers, a CNIC copy and a trip to the post office.

Eligibility and rules

Who may register: Open to anyone, anywhere. PKNIC's policy says a registrant needs no local presence and no admin contact in Pakistan. The exceptions are .edu.pk, reserved for bona fide educational institutes with a sizeable active student enrolment, and the government zones (.gov.pk for the federal government and provincial ones such as .gop.pk for Punjab and .gos.pk for Sindh).

  • Length: a name directly under .pk needs at least four characters (PKNIC's own example is 1234.pk); a name under .com.pk or another sub-zone may be a single character, such as a.com.pk. The label may run to 63 characters and the whole domain may not exceed 70.
  • Characters: a label may not start or end with a hyphen, and two hyphens in a row are not allowed. A four-character name directly under .pk may not start with, or contain, one of PKNIC's sub-zone labels such as com, net or gov, and since May 2014 no name directly under .pk may end with one. Under .com.pk and the other sub-zones the labels pk, www and the sub-zone names themselves are reserved. Names on PKNIC's reserved or blocked list (info.pk and name.pk are its examples) are unavailable. PKNIC's pages say nothing about IDN or Urdu names.
  • Price and term (PKNIC's own figures): Rs 2,100 per year for registrants based in Pakistan, up from Rs 1,800 on 1 August 2026; USD 15.99 per year where the registrant or its registrar is outside Pakistan. Fees are charged for two years at a time, may be prepaid for up to ten years, renew at the same yearly rate, and are non-refundable and non-transferable even if the domain is deleted.
  • Registrant record: the domain name itself can never be edited, and PKNIC keeps the registrant record locked to stop unauthorised transfers of ownership. A change of registrant needs original signed papers posted to PKNIC in Lahore: for a company, an authority letter on letterhead under official seal from the CEO, director or head (not an agent), plus a clear CNIC copy of the signatory; for an individual, or where the registrant name does not match the company's official name, an affidavit on Rs 100 stamp paper attested by an oath commissioner or notary public. Scans are refused. PKNIC verifies by phone and the change takes about three to four business days. The domain must not be expired.
  • Expiry: once the fee is overdue PKNIC may deactivate the domain at its discretion. A two-week hold follows during which the owner can pay and reactivate. After that PKNIC may offer the name to anyone else on a first-come, first-served basis against prepayment. The policy refers to separate schedules for renewal, expiry and redemption; we found no published redemption fee, grace period beyond the two weeks, or transfer-lock period.
  • WHOIS and review: PKNIC treats all registration details as public information published on the internet, and its pages mention no privacy or proxy service. A new name is registered provisionally without human review; PKNIC aims to approve or reject it within 30 days, and an applicant who does not answer a query within 15 days is treated as rejected. Disputes go to binding arbitration at the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center (DNDRC) under PKNIC's amended version of the UDRP.

PKNIC fixes the registrant name at registration and does not change it afterwards. Type it exactly as it should appear on record when you order.

Questions about .pk

Can I register a .pk domain if I live outside Pakistan?

Yes. PKNIC's policy asks for no local presence and no admin contact in Pakistan. The difference is price: registrants based in Pakistan pay in rupees, while a registrant or registrar outside Pakistan pays PKNIC USD 15.99 per year.

What is the minimum registration period for .pk?

Two years. PKNIC charges for every .pk, .com.pk and similar name two years at a time, and you may prepay up to ten years. Renewals cost the same per year as the first registration.

Can I change the owner name on a .pk domain later?

Not casually. The domain name itself can never be edited, and PKNIC locks the registrant record. A change needs original signed documents posted to Lahore, a CNIC copy, and an affidavit on Rs 100 stamp paper attested by an oath commissioner or notary public for individuals or mismatched names. That is why we file the name exactly as you want it from the start.

What changed on 1 August 2026?

PKNIC raised its rate for registrants based in Pakistan by Rs 300 per year, from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,100 per year, so two years now cost Rs 4,200 at the registry. The USD 15.99 rate for overseas registrants did not change. Our own price is on the price list at /pricing/.

What happens if I miss my .pk renewal?

PKNIC may deactivate the domain once the fee is overdue. You then get a two-week hold in which you can pay and reactivate it. After that the name can be offered to anyone else, and fees already paid are not refunded.

Does .pk offer WHOIS privacy?

PKNIC treats the details a registrant supplies as public information and its pages mention no privacy or proxy service. Keep the details accurate, because PKNIC uses them for technical problems and disputes.
