How to get a .edu.pk domain for a school or college

A .edu.pk domain is for genuine educational institutes with an active student body, and the institute's name must appear in the domain. You register the name, then post three documents to PKNIC in Lahore: an authorisation letter on original letterhead, proof of registration, and the signer's CNIC copy. The domain stays inactive until PKNIC verifies them.

Who can register a .edu.pk domain

PKNIC keeps .edu.pk for bona fide educational institutes. In plain terms, the school, college or university must be real and have a sizeable number of enrolled students.

The institute's name must also appear in the domain. A school called Green Valley Public School should look at names built around greenvalley, not a generic word such as topschools.

If you run a small tuition centre or a home academy, you may not fit this rule. The alternatives section below covers other options.

  • Genuine institute with active students
  • Institute name must appear in the domain

Documents PKNIC asks for

PKNIC lists three documents. Prepare all three before you start, because the domain waits on them.

Ask the head to sign the letter personally. Check that the letterhead is original, since PKNIC says photocopies and laser-printed letterheads are not accepted.

  • A letter of authorisation signed by the Principal or Head, on the institute's original letterhead
  • Proof that the institute is registered and active, such as registration papers from a government education body
  • A copy of the CNIC of the person who signed the letter

How approval works

The process has four steps. First, the name is registered. Second, you post the three documents to PKNIC Collection, 435 Tariq Block, Garden Town, Lahore. Third, PKNIC checks them. Fourth, the domain is activated once they pass.

New .edu.pk names stay inactive while this review happens, so your website and email will not work until activation. Plan your admissions season around that delay, and do not print the address on banners before it is live.

We cannot speed up PKNIC's review, and we do not speak for PKNIC.

Cost and term

PKNIC's published fee is Rs 2,100 per year for Pakistan-based registrants, a rise of Rs 300 from 1 August 2026. Overseas registrants pay USD 15.99 per year. Fees are charged on a two-year basis, and you can pay for up to ten years.

PKNIC's .edu.pk page does not give a separate fee, so we use the general figures here. Our current rupee pricing is on /pricing/, and /pk-domain-price/ explains how the PKNIC fee fits into an order.

Remember that the registrant name is fixed at registration. Use the institute's exact legal name from the start.

Alternatives for small academies

If you cannot meet the .edu.pk rules, you still have options. A coaching centre, tutor or small academy can look at .com.pk or .org.pk. PKNIC lists both as second-level domains. Check PKNIC's current rules for each before you apply.

A .com.pk name suits a private academy that sells courses. Read /com-pk-domain/ for the details. Compare options on /pk-vs-com-pk-vs-com/ and check spelling rules on /domain-name-rules/.

A plain .com is also fine if you want an international look. See /com-domain/. You can test several names at once on /domains/.

How we can help

We are a small Pakistani company, not a registrar and not connected with PKNIC. We check availability live and register new domains in your own name through PKNIC or a registrar.

You can pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa. Sales happen on WhatsApp. We aim to file the same working day payment arrives. Unpaid orders cancel after 48 hours, and you get a full refund if a name is taken before we file.

Start at /register-pk-domain/ or /order/. Name ideas for schools are on /domain-name-ideas-pakistan/.
