Domain name ideas for a Pakistani business (with examples)
The domain names that work for a Pakistani business follow four patterns: a Roman-Urdu word plus what you sell (apnidukaan.pk), your city plus your trade (lahorecakes.pk), a plain keyword under .pk or .com.pk (solarpanels.pk), or a short invented brand of five to eight letters. Keep it to letters only, two words at most, and check IPO Pakistan's trademark register and an availability search before you pay. The rest of this guide gives examples of each pattern and the rules that knock weak names out.
Start with Roman-Urdu words customers already use
Roman-Urdu is how many Pakistanis type on WhatsApp, so a name built from it feels familiar at once. Words like apna, mera, sasta, asan, dukaan, bazaar, ghar and khidmat carry meaning that an English word cannot. Pair one with what you sell: apnidukaan.pk for a general store, asanbilling.com.pk for invoicing software, merabazaar.pk for a marketplace, gharkakhana.pk for home-cooked food.
Spell the word the way people search it, not the way a dictionary would; 'dukaan' and 'dukan' are both common, so try to own both. And keep it to two words. Three Roman-Urdu words run together are hard to read and hard to remember after one hearing. These are patterns, not checked names, so run each through the search at /domains/ before you fall in love with it.
Use your city when you only serve that city
A city name tells a customer where you are before they click. It suits businesses that deliver locally: lahorecakes.pk, karachitutors.com.pk, multanmangoes.pk, sialkotsportsgear.pk, quettadryfruit.pk. It can also help when someone searches 'plumber Rawalpindi' and your name already contains the city.
The catch is growth. A bakery called lahorecakes.pk that opens in Islamabad two years later is stuck with the wrong city in its address. If you expect to expand, put the city in your marketing, not your domain, or register the city version alongside a broader name and point both at one site. Smaller places work too. A city-plus-trade name in Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Mardan or Hyderabad is more likely to be free than one in Karachi or Lahore, and a local name is easier to say on the phone than an invented one.
Keyword plus .pk or .com.pk
A plain pattern is what you sell plus a Pakistani ending: solarpanels.pk, tuitionhub.com.pk, bridalwear.pk, cateringkarachi.com.pk. PKNIC, the registry for .pk, lists .com.pk for general business and individuals, with .biz.pk for promotional business and .web.pk for websites. A plain .pk needs at least four characters before the dot, while .com.pk accepts a single character. Single generic words under .pk are often gone, so a two-word name is the realistic target.
The ending matters for trust. A Pakistani customer paying by JazzCash or bank transfer reads .pk as 'this company is here, and I can reach it'. If you also sell abroad, register the .com too and point it at the same site. Our idea tool at /ideas/ builds keyword combinations; check each one at /domains/.
Short brandable names you can say on a phone call
A brandable is an invented or borrowed word that means nothing until you give it meaning: Tezly, Rangeen, Zarqo, Dastak. The reward is a short name that is more often free under several endings. The risk is that nobody can spell it. Use a phone test. Say the name once to a friend, then ask them to type it. If they ask 'with a z or an s?', change it.
Brandables that work in Pakistan lean on sounds that are the same in Urdu and English: hard consonants, open vowels, five to eight letters. Avoid letters that Roman-Urdu spells two ways, such as 'kh' versus 'k' or 'ee' versus 'i'. A brandable often has a free social handle too, so check Instagram and TikTok alongside the domain.
Check the trademark before you register
A domain is not a trademark. PKNIC's registration policy makes the applicant warrant that the name infringes no trademark in Pakistan, and it leaves disputes over a name to be settled between the parties, with binding arbitration under PKNIC's adapted version of the UDRP. IPO Pakistan's Trade Marks Registry in Karachi offers a search of registered marks; a formal search request on Form TM-55 costs Rs 1,000 per class for one mark, paid by pay order or bank draft. To protect the name later, a TM-1 application costs Rs 3,000 per class and a registration lasts ten years from the filing date.
Before paying anything, do the free checks: search Google for the exact name, check the SECP company search, and look at the social handles. If a bigger business already trades under the name, pick another.
Rules that cut a name list fast: no hyphens, no numbers
A standard domain label uses letters, digits and the hyphen only. RFC 1035 limits a label to 63 characters, and PKNIC caps a whole .pk name at 70. Within those limits, drop hyphens and numbers anyway. A hyphen cannot be heard: 'apna-bazaar' on the phone becomes apnabazaar, and the customer lands on someone else's site. Numbers force a choice between '4' and 'four', and a number in a name looks like a throwaway page.
PKNIC adds its own limits: a label cannot start or end with a dash or contain two dashes together, 'www' and 'pk' are reserved under .com.pk and the other third-level endings, and a four-character .pk name cannot start with or contain a second-level label such as com or net. Lower-case letters, two words at most, and you clear every one of these without thinking.
From shortlist to registered name
Once you have three candidates, check each at /domains/; we confirm availability with the registry again before we file. Pick the one that survived the phone test and the trademark search. Decide the name it will be registered in: your own name as on your CNIC, or your SECP- or FBR-registered business name. For .pk and .com.pk, the registrant name is fixed at registration, so get this right first time.
PKNIC bills in two-year blocks, up to ten years, and its own fee for Pakistani registrants is Rs 2,100 per year since 1 August 2026, up from Rs 1,800; our price is on /pricing/. Order at /order/, pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and we aim to file the same working day the payment arrives. Already own a .pk elsewhere? See /pk-domain-transfer/.
Common questions
Should I choose .pk or .com.pk for my business?
PKNIC lists .com.pk for general business and individuals. A plain .pk is shorter but needs at least four characters before the dot. If both are free, many businesses take both and point them at one site.
Can I change the domain name after it is registered?
No. PKNIC's FAQ says a registered domain's name cannot be changed afterwards. You would register a new name and either let the old one lapse or keep it as a redirect.
Are Roman-Urdu domain names allowed under .pk?
Yes. PKNIC allows generic dictionary words, and Roman-Urdu words are written in ordinary Latin letters, so apna, mera or dukaan are treated like any other label.
How do I check a trademark in Pakistan?
IPO Pakistan's Trade Marks Registry in Karachi runs register searches; a formal request goes on Form TM-55 at Rs 1,000 per class. Do the free Google, SECP and social-handle checks first.
Is a hyphen or a number ever a good idea in a domain?
Rarely. Both are technically allowed inside a label, but neither can be heard on a phone call, and PKNIC bars a label that starts or ends with a dash or contains two dashes together.
What is the minimum term for a .pk domain?
PKNIC charges in two-year blocks and lets you pay up to ten years in advance, so plan for a two-year commitment at registration.
