A domain for your freelance portfolio

Yes, a freelancer benefits from a domain in their own name. It gives you a portfolio address and an email that you control, whatever happens on any marketplace. For overseas clients, .com is the familiar choice, while .pk shows you are based in Pakistan. Register it in your own name, and read each platform's current link rules before adding the address to a profile.

Why a freelancer needs a domain of their own

A marketplace profile lives on someone else's land. The platform can change its layout, its fees or its rules, and your page changes with it. A domain is the one address you hold yourself.

A domain does three jobs for a freelancer. It gives clients a clean web address to type or remember. It gives you a portfolio page that you design as you like. And it lets you use an email address that ends in your own name instead of a free mailbox.

None of this replaces the marketplaces. Many freelancers keep winning work there. The domain simply sits beside them and stays with you if you ever change platform, city or clients.

Choose a personal-name domain

The simplest option is your own name, for example firstname-lastname with the extension you prefer. A name-based address is easy to share on a call, a CV or a business card.

Keep it short and easy to say aloud. Avoid numbers and extra hyphens where you can, since they are hard to spell over the phone. If your exact name is taken, add a word for your trade rather than a random string.

Our name ideas tool at /ideas/ can suggest combinations, and /domain-name-rules/ explains which characters a domain may use. If the name you want is already owned, the /#browse marketplace may list it for sale.

.com or .pk for overseas clients

Many foreign clients know .com best, so it is a safe default if you mainly work overseas. A .pk tells the visitor you are Pakistani, which suits local clients.

You do not have to pick only one. Some freelancers keep a .com as the main address and register the .pk too, so nobody else can take it.

For .pk and .com.pk, PKNIC sets the registrant name when the domain is registered, and the minimum term is two years. The PKNIC fee is Rs 2,100 per year for Pakistan-based registrants from 1 August 2026, and USD 15.99 per year for overseas registrants. See /pk-vs-com-pk-vs-com/ for the comparison and /pk-domain-price/ for our pricing notes.

Linking your marketplace profiles

Read each platform's rules before you paste your address anywhere. Marketplaces such as Upwork and Fiverr set their own limits on contact details and on moving work off the platform.

Those rules change, and we have not quoted them here. Open the current help pages of the platform you use and follow them. If a rule is unclear, ask the platform's support team.

A safe habit is to keep your site free of anything the platform forbids, and to share it only where the rules allow.

Email on your own domain

An address such as hello@yourname.com looks more settled than a free mailbox. It also moves with you. If you ever leave a provider, you keep the address.

Registering the name and running a mailbox are two separate jobs. We register the domain for you. Mail itself comes from a mail provider that you choose, and you then point your domain's settings to it.

Use your own address for your portfolio site, invoices and work that sits outside any platform's rules.

Registering it with us

We are a small Pakistani company. We check availability live at /domains/ and register new domains in your own name through PKNIC or a registrar. We are not a registrar ourselves and we are not affiliated with PKNIC.

Send your order at /order/ and talk to us on WhatsApp. You can pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa. We aim to file on the same working day your payment arrives. Unpaid orders cancel after 48 hours, and you get a full refund if the name is taken before we file.

If you want a name someone already owns, see /buy-domain/. Our marketplace holds the payment in escrow until the transfer is done.

Common questions

Should a freelancer choose .com or .pk?

Choose .com if most of your clients are overseas, because it is the most familiar. Choose .pk if you want to show a Pakistani base, or register both to protect your name.

Can I put my own website on my Upwork or Fiverr profile?

That depends on each platform's current rules, which change. Read the live help pages before you add your address, and follow them.

Is there a minimum term for a .pk domain?

Yes. PKNIC sets a minimum term of two years for .pk and .com.pk domains. The registrant name is also fixed at registration, so register it in your own name.

Does a domain come with email?

Registering a domain and hosting mailboxes are separate. We register the name, and you choose a mail provider and connect your domain to it.

How do I pay for a domain in Pakistan?

You can pay in rupees by bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash or Easypaisa, and we handle sales on WhatsApp. Unpaid orders cancel after 48 hours.
