Shopify domain in Pakistan: buy through Shopify or connect your own?

Two ways to get a domain for Shopify

A Shopify domain in Pakistan comes down to one choice. Either you buy the name inside your Shopify admin, or you register it with someone else and point it at your store.

Both routes end the same way: customers type your name and see your shop. The difference is who holds the domain, how you pay, and which extensions you can pick.

Buying inside Shopify keeps everything in one dashboard. Connecting keeps the domain separate from your store, so you can move your shop later without touching the name. What Shopify sells and how renewal works

Shopify's help pages say a domain bought through Shopify is registered for one year and can be renewed each year. Auto-renew is on by default, and you can switch it off for each domain. Renewal is charged separately from your Shopify plan.

The same page says the price depends on the extension, and that domain purchases cannot be refunded. If the extension you want is not offered, Shopify points you to a third-party provider instead.

Shopify's list covers hundreds of endings, including .com, .net, .org, .co, .io, .fr, .se and .be. The help page says you pick a payment method at purchase, but it does not name the methods or currencies. So check the amount, currency and payment options at checkout before you confirm.

Is .pk available on Shopify?

.pk does not appear in Shopify's list of extensions you can buy. So if you search for a .pk name inside Shopify, do not expect to register it there.

The fix is simple. Shopify says that when an extension is not offered, you can buy the domain from another provider and connect it to your store. A .pk name is registered through PKNIC, the registry, or a registrar. See our guide “What is PKNIC? PKNIC fixes the registrant name at registration, so put the correct owner on the order from the start. Names directly under .pk need at least four characters. Comparing the cost without guessing

We will not quote a Shopify domain price in Pakistan here, because Shopify shows its price per extension in its own domain search and it can change. Open that search, type your name, and write down the first-year price and the renewal price.

Then compare like for like. Ask three things: what is the yearly renewal, in which currency is it charged, and does your card or bank add foreign-currency fees?

Connecting a domain you bought elsewhere

For .pk, connecting is the only route. The steps on Shopify's help page are short: log in to your domain provider, update the DNS records, then wait.

Shopify says the change usually takes effect within two hours but can take up to two days. You keep paying for and renewing the name at the provider where you bought it. If the domain is already connected to a different Shopify store, you may also need to prove ownership, for example with a TXT record.

Email on your domain

Shopify's help page says it does not provide email hosting. You can create forwarding addresses from the Domains section of your admin, or connect the domain to a separate email host.

Forwarding means a message sent to info@yourstore.com lands in an inbox you already use. It is fine for starting out. If you want to send mail from your own address with a proper mailbox, you need a mail service from another company.
