Can you make money flipping domains in Pakistan?
Some people do, but most names never sell, and you pay for every year you hold one. A .pk name has a two-year minimum term, so your cost is fixed up front, while your sale price and timing are not. PKNIC also says a registered name cannot be modified, so check how a resale would work before you buy. Treat flipping as a slow side activity with real downside, not an income plan.
What flipping really means
Domain flipping means registering or buying a name, then selling it on at a higher price. The idea is simple. The hard part is that you only earn when a buyer turns up, and you cannot control when that happens.
Many names sit unsold for years. Some never sell at all. So think of each name as a small bet. You pay now and hope to be paid later. We cannot tell you what any name will fetch, and nobody honest can. If you want a rough idea of worth before you buy, read /domain-value/ first and keep your expectations modest.
The costs that keep running
Every name you hold costs money whether it sells or not. For .pk and .com.pk names, PKNIC fixes the registrant name at registration and the minimum term is two years. Its fee is Rs 2,100 per year for Pakistan-based registrants from 1 August 2026, and USD 15.99 per year for overseas ones. So one .pk name means at least Rs 4,200 paid before any buyer appears.
Multiply that by the number of names you hold. Ten names is Rs 42,000 at the minimum term. Add your own time, and the payment fees you pay when sending money. See /pk-domain-price/ and /pricing/ for what we charge on top.
- Fees repeat every year or term.
- A bad name is a cost, not an asset.
- Count your time as a cost too.
The .pk registrant rule
PKNIC states that once a domain is registered, its name cannot be modified. For flipping, this matters. A .pk name is registered in one person's or company's name, and we cannot confirm from PKNIC's public page how, or whether, a name can move to a new owner afterwards.
Ask PKNIC before you pay for a name you plan to resell. Read /pk-domain-transfer/ for what we know. A .com name is a different case, so compare the extensions on /pk-vs-com-pk-vs-com/.
Holding time and what sells
Short, clear names are easier to sell than clever ones. A name a business owner can say aloud, spell without help and type without mistakes has a better chance. Names tied to a real trade, city or service tend to be easier to explain to a buyer than random letters.
Be careful with brand names and trademarks. A name that copies someone else's brand can bring a dispute instead of a sale. Check the rules in /domain-name-rules/ before you register. For ideas that fit real Pakistani businesses, see /domain-name-ideas-pakistan/. Even a good name may wait a long time, so only buy what you can afford to hold.
Where buyers come from
Buyers are often small businesses, freelancers and shops that find the name they want is taken. They then look for the owner. We cannot give you figures on how often this happens.
Listing on a marketplace puts your name in front of people already searching. Our marketplace is at /#browse, and you can list a name through /#sell. Payment is held in escrow, so the buyer pays first and the seller is paid when the transfer is done. Read /sell-domain/ for the steps, and /buy-domain/ if you are on the other side.
A sensible way to start small
If you still want to try, start with a few names, not dozens. Pick names you could use yourself if they do not sell. Choose the extension with care, then check what each costs to keep.
Search for availability on /domains/ and register in your own name through /register-pk-domain/ or /order/. Set a budget you can lose, and stop if you reach it.
- Start with three to five names.
- Write down your total yearly cost.
- Set a date to review and drop names that are not moving.
