How to change the owner of a .pk domain
To change the owner of a .pk domain, you send PKNIC paper proof. A company needs an authority letter from its head. An individual needs an affidavit on Rs 100 stamp paper, attested by a notary or oath commissioner. Originals go by post and PKNIC checks them by phone. PKNIC says processing then takes about 3 to 4 business days. The domain must not have expired.
Why the owner name is hard to change
With a .pk or .com.pk name, the registrant is the owner on record at PKNIC. PKNIC fixes that name at registration and locks the record to stop unauthorised transfers.
So a change is not a quick form on a dashboard. PKNIC wants paper proof from the current owner.
If you are still choosing a name, get the owner right on day one. We register new names in the customer's own name, so you do not need to fix it later. See /register-pk-domain/ for how that works.
Documents for a company or an individual
What you send depends on who owns the domain today. PKNIC asks for different papers from companies and from individuals.
- Company: an authority letter on company letterhead, under the official seal. It must come from the CEO, a director or the head of the organisation, not from an agent or technical contact. It must state the purpose and details of the change.
- Company: a clear copy of the CNIC of the person who signs.
- Individual: an affidavit stating the facts, the request, the reason and the details of the change.
- Affidavit: it goes on stamp paper worth Rs 100 and is attested by an oath commissioner or notary public.
- Company: if the registrant name does not match the official emblem, an affidavit is needed as well, sent with the authority letter.
Step by step: from request to new owner
Follow the steps in order. A missing item is the usual cause of delay.
- Write the authority letter or affidavit with the purpose and details of the change.
- Sign it. For an affidavit, have it stamped and attested by a notary or oath commissioner.
- Add the CNIC copy where needed.
- Post the originals to PKNIC at 435 Tariq Block, Garden Town, Lahore. PKNIC does not accept scanned images of authority letters.
- Keep your phone reachable. PKNIC verifies the documents by phone after receiving them.
- Wait for the change to be processed.
How long it takes and the expiry rule
PKNIC says processing takes about 3 to 4 business days after the documents are verified. The notary, the post to Lahore and the phone check come before that, so allow extra time. That extra time is our estimate, not a PKNIC figure.
The expiry rule matters most. PKNIC says a domain can only be unlocked if it has not expired. If your name is close to its end date, renew it first, then start the change.
PKNIC charges for .pk in two-year blocks: Rs 2,100 per year for registrants in Pakistan (from 1 August 2026), or USD 15.99 per year for overseas ones. You can prepay for up to ten years.
If you are buying or selling a .pk name
Buyers and sellers should plan for this paperwork before they agree a price. The seller must be the registered owner, so ask to see proof of ownership first.
Our marketplace holds the buyer's payment in escrow while the transfer is done, so the seller is not paid until the buyer has the domain. Browse listings at /#browse or list your own at /#sell. For the wider process, read /pk-domain-transfer/ and /buy-domain/.
Not sure what a name is worth? Start with /domain-value/. If you only need a different name, a new registration may be easier than a change of owner.
Check the details before you post anything
PKNIC can update its rules. Confirm the current requirements on pknic.net.pk, or with PKNIC staff, before you pay a notary and post your papers.
We are not PKNIC and we are not affiliated with it. We cannot change an owner on PKNIC's behalf.
